Yuan Xingpei

President of China Central Institute for Culture and History

Yuan Xingpei, a native of Wujin, Jiangsu Province, was born in April 1936. He is a member of the China Democratic League. He is President of the Sinology Institute of Peking University, a professor at the Department of the Chinese Language at the PKU and a tutor of Ph.D students. He is also a member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. His prior positions include Vice Chairman of the China Democratic League and Vice President of the CCICH. He assumed Presidency of the CCICH in January 2006. He was a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the 8th and 9th CPPCC and a member of the Standing Committee of the 10th NPC.
