COSC Delegation On Visit to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia

Zhang Yantong, Vice Chairman of COSC, headed a delegation on a visit to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia from 5 to 12 December 2018 for exchange between think tanks and field studies on economic cooperation, trade, and engagement between the publics. Members of the delegation included Xia Bin and He Maochun, counsellors of the State Council, Zhang Ying, Chairman  of the Counsellor’s Office of the Provincial Government of Yunnan, and Li Yang, Director of Comprehensive division of international exchanges and cooperation department of the COSC. 
They talked with the leadership and scholars of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and BCI in Pakistan on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and economic cooperation, trade, people-to-people and cultural exchange between the two countries. To better appreciate capital market cooperation under the BRI, the successes and challenges of Chinese enterprises operating in Pakistan, and financial cooperation between two countries, they visited Pak China Investment Company Limited (PCICL) and MCB Bank.

In Saudi Arabia, the delegation met with the leadership and experts of the Center for Research and Intercommunication Knowledge (CRIK) and the Middle East Studies Centre (MESC), sharing ideas about think tank interactions, creating synergy between the BRI and the Saudi Vision 2030, and practical cooperation between the two countries. They made field trips to the ICBC Riyadh Branch and JollyChic from China’s Zhejiang Province to see the cross-border financial activities of Chinese banks, examples of China-Saudi Arabia economic cooperation, and the business environment of cross-border e-commerce.

They were received by Yao Jing, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, and Li Huaxin, Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and exchanged views on topics of common interest.
