From 13 to 17 December 2016, Counsellor of the State Council Zheng Hu led a delegation of China’s oil industry to visit Alberta, Canada’s major energy province. The delegation attended the China-Canada Energy Cooperation Forum and the signing ceremony for the MOU between the Board of the CNPC-Alberta Petroleum Centre, CNPC and the Alberta Province. Mr. Zheng delivered a speech at the forum.

During their stay in Alberta, Counsellor Zheng called on Energy Minister of Alberta Margaret McCuaig-Boyd and had discussions with Canadian government officials and management of international oil companies and energy institutions on “pipeline safety and regulations in Canada”, “relations with aboriginals and involvement of stakeholders”, “Canada’s policy support to Chinese companies”. In his address at the forum, Counsellor Zheng gave a briefing on China’s economic situation and energy development and stressed that China and Canada are highly complementary in energy cooperation, which enjoys broad prospects. He expressed the hope that the two sides strengthen energy cooperation and exchanges and promote cooperation in non-conventional oil and gas development as well as energy investment and trade.

The delegation also visited the Research Center of the University of Calgary, the headquarters of Encana, a major oil company of Canada, and Brion Energy.
