COSC Delegation Visited UK

From 5 to 9 December 2016, the COSC delegation headed by Counsellor Chen Quanxun and made up of Counsellors Xu Songling and Zhang Gang and Deputy Director General of the Counsellor-Service Department Zhang Liping visited the UK. Chinese Ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming met with the delegation.

During the visit, the delegation attended two symposiums and interacted with experts of the UK. Sean Tompkins, CEO of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), met the delegation and attended the symposium. Chen Quanxun, Xu Songling and Zhang Gang made keynote speeches: “standardization and China’s industrial upgrading”, “the historical and cultural significance of Chinese towns and their protection” and “standardization of smart cities in China”. Tony Mulhall, RICS Associate Director, and David Tomback, Development Economics Director for Historic England, made keynote speeches: “sharing UK’s experiences and practices of UK’s real estate standardization and the role of governments, associations and businesses in developing standards” and “the role of surveyors in protecting traditional cities and towns”.

At the Chatham House, Chen Quanxun, Xu Songling and Zhang Gang made keynote speeches: “energy sustainability in China”, “smog in Chinese cities and its treatment” and “China’s clean energy utilization and smart grid strategy”. Chatham House Associate Fellow Michal Meidan, Senior Fellow Antony Froggatt and Associate Fellow Kirsty Hamilton gave keynote speeches: “Europe-China energy cooperation”, “the future of power: lessons of Europe and Asia” and “from green finance to green energy”.

At the Royal Academy of Engineering, the COSC delegation had exchanges with David Thomlinson, Chief of International Affairs, on the prospects, areas and ways of cooperation between the two institutions. The delegation also made an investigation trip to Bath on the preservation of cultural heritages and heard the presentation of Tony Crouch, an official for cultural heritage management of the City of Bath, on Bath’s history and the work and plan of the city government on cultural heritage protection and management.
