CCICH President Yuan Xingpei Visited Japan

From 24 to 28 October, at the invitation of the Confucius Institute of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, the CCICH delegation headed by President Yuan Xingpei and comprised of CCICH Researcher Liu Dajun and Nima Zeren, CCICH Deputy Director General Xu Wenji and Fu Qiang visited Fukuoka-ken, Japan.

On October 25, President Yuan Xingpei visited Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) and had talks with Korenaga Shun, President of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Director General Murakami Takeshi and the director of the Confucius Institute. President Yuan introduced what CCICH has done in cultural and historical research and artistic creation. The two sides had in-depth discussions on sinology in East Asia and higher education in China and Japan. President Shun said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute of his university. He welcomed more Chinese scholars for academic exchanges, which will be very important for building a cultural relationship of harmony and trust.

CCICH Researcher Nima Zeren gave a lecture on History and Painting of the Tibetan Ethnicity of China at APU. Using more than 30 paintings created by himself, Nima Zeren elaborated on the evolution of Tibetan Buddhism and the features of Tibetan paintings as represented by Thang-ga. He showed the progress of Tibetan paintings in the new era. The works of Nima Zeren combine the feature of Han and Tibetan ethnicities as well as western elements and were highly praised by the audience.

On October 26, the delegation visited Kyushu University and had talks with its president, director of the international department and professor of classical Chinese culture. The two sides agreed that exchanges, clashes and mutual learning between diverse cultures are essential in the era of globalization. Liu Dajun, CCICH Researcher and President of the Chinese Zhouyi Association, gave a lecture on the Book of Changes. Using tooth picks, the students learned divination from Mr. Liu with great interest and raised questions. At the end of the lecture, Mr. Liu encouraged the students to uphold virtues and get a deeper understanding of the wisdom contained the Book of Changes.

During the visit, the delegation also had exchanges with the cultural heritage protection division of the education department of Fukuoka-ken to learn about Japan’s measures to protect cultural heritage and visited the museums of Fukuoka-ken and Kyushu.

The delegations also called upon Consul General He Zhenliang and Vice Consul General Sun Zhongbao of the Chinese Consulate in Fukuoka-ken.
