COSC and Chatham House Co-organized the International Symposium on the Rules for Global Governance

On 2 August 2016, COSC and the Chatham House co-organized the International Symposium on the Rules for Global Governance in Beijing. COSC Chairman Wang Zhongwei, Charge d’Affairs of the British Embassy Martyn Roper and Robert Baily, Research Director of the Energy, Environment and Resources of the Chatham House attended and spoke at the opening ceremony. COSC Vice Chairperson Wang Hong chaired the opening ceremony.

COSC Vice Chairperson chaired the opening ceremony.

In the morning session, Counsellors Wang Huiyao and Lu Jinyong, who is a Professor of the University of International Business and Economics, Paola Subacchi, Research Director of the International Economics Department, Alan Wheatley, Associate Fellow in International Economics, and David Vines, Associate Fellow in International Economics of the Chatham House, delivered keynote speeches on multilateral trading rules and had in-depth discussions.

Symposium in session

In the afternoon, COSC Counsellor Liu Yanhua, COSC Research Fellows Zhang Xinsheng, He Jiankun and Xu Dingming, Felix Preston, Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Research Director of the Energy, Environment and Resources Department of the Chatham House and Katherine Morton, Associate Fellow, Energy, Environment and Resources of the Chatham House gave keynote speeches on energy and climate change and had in-depth discussions.

As the Chinese co-organizer, COSC invited COSC Counsellor Chen Chuansheng, Tang Min, Li Yuguang and COSC Research Fellow Wu Yin as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NDRC, Ministry of Commerce, Renmin University of China, University of International Business and Economics, Central University of Finance and Economics, Counsellors’ Office of Shanghai Municipal government and Counsellors’ Office of Zhejiang Provincial Government. Participants from the UK side include experts in energy, environment, resources and international economics and officials from the UK embassy.
COSC and the Chatham House established cooperative relations in 2013 and have jointly organized several events. This is the third international symposium held by the two sides.
