CCICH Researcher Chen Pingyuan Gave a Lecture in Xinjiang
On the afternoon of 25 June, Chen Pingyuan, Researcher of the China Central Institute for Culture and History and Professor of Peking University gave a lecture on “Chinese Universities during the War against Japanese Aggression” at Xinjiang University. He reviewed the unforgettable history of professors and students of Chinese universities working persistently in academic pursuit during the hard, 8-year war against Japanese aggression.
Researcher Chen Pingyuan talked about the rearward transfer of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nankai University and Zhejiang University from the original sites by citing precious historical documents and video materials from four aspects, including “Chinese universities that can never be bombed out”, “transfer routes of universities” and “the miracle in world higher education history”. His lecture has helped the teachers and students to understand how the spirit of universities was promoted during that especially difficult period and how university scholars could follow their commitment and belief.
Chen Pingyuan expressed hope that they will never forget the rough journey of Chinese universities back then and continue to maintain the inspiring and unbeatable spirit of those professors and students. As he put it, the transfer of many Chinese universities during the war against Japanese aggression is a story worth our memory and that generation of students and professors command our respect and thus today’s academics should learn from the university spirit in that period of time.
Researcher Chen Pingyuan’s good lecture was greeted by warm applause from the teachers and students. Also on the occasion, Party Secretary Li Zhongyao of Xinjiang University announced the appointment of Professor Chen Pingyuan as Guest Professor of Xinjiang University and presented the letter of appointment to him.
