COSC Counsellors Zhang Hongtao and Tang Min Attended the Annual General Meeting
of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development

Date: 2014-12-11
From 1 to 3 December 2014, the 2014 Annual General Meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) was held in Beijing. Vice Premier and CCICED Chairman Zhang Gaoli attended and addressed the opening ceremony. COSC counsellors Zhang Hongtao and Tang Min attended the meeting and made speeches.

Counsellor Zhang Hongtao made introductory comments for the meeting, with a briefing on China’s energy consumption structure and an analysis of the major causes behind the aggravating smog in China. He pointed out that the coal-centered energy structure in China will not be fully transformed in the short run but air pollution can be reduced through accelerated development and use of oil and gas resources and non-fossil energy and the clean use of coal. He maintained that as long as we proceed from China’s national realities, make clear policies and take strong measures, there is great hope for eradicating smog.
