The third Han Meilin Art Gallery was opened at the foot of the Helan mountain, Yinchuan, Ningxia, after two Han Meilin Art Galleries had been built in Hangzhou and Beijing.
The Yinchuan Han Meilin Art Gallery is situated at the Helan Fresco Park, covering an area of 16,000 square meters, with a floor space of 7,000 square meters. It is divided into an exhibition hall, an interactive zone, a creation zone and a tourist service zone, combining multiple functions such as sightseeing, teaching, exhibition and leisure. The gallery has five halls, two studios, one corridor and one valley, namely the prelude hall, halls 1, 2, 3, 4, video studio, purple sand studio, manuscript gallery and the sun valley. More than 1,000 exquisite pieces of work are on display, including the painting, calligraphy, sculpture, porcelain and dyed textiles made by Han Meilin under the theme of fresco.
According to Han Meilin, he chose to build his third art gallery at the foot of the Helan mountain, because Helan frescos have a "lifebood" connection with him. "Looking at the frescos, I feel passion ignited in me to create," he said, "They send me into deep thinking on modern art. Only the combination of modern art and ancient, traditional art can lead to new creation." Helan frescos are therefore seen by Han Meilin as a turning point in his art career.
In 2010, Han Meilin donated 1,000 exquisite artworks to the government of Yinchuan. To put on display and study these art treasures, the government of Yinchuan decided to build an art gallery dedicated to Han Meilin at the Helan Fresco Park. It is hoped that Han's modern interpretation of Helan frescos and the fusion of ancient civilization with modern wisdom will add renewed meaning and value to Helan frescos.
As Feng Jicai, member of CPPCC Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Art and Literary Circles, said, "Han Meilin, with his art talent, studies and interprets Helan frescos from both modern and traditional perspectives, and therefore preserves the ancient cultural heritage. His deep bond with the frescos enables to him to shed modern light on the centuries-old artworks, which in turn brings his art achievements to a higher level."
In parallel, the third Han Meilin Art Forum was held. Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Art and Literary Circles Feng Jicai, cultural scholar Yu Qiuyu, writer Mo Yan, Chairman of the Palace Museum Society Zheng Xinmiao, Honorary President of Dunhuang Academy Fan Jinshi, Chinese American writer Yan Geling, pianist Liu Shikun and Vice President of the National Museum Chen Lusheng had discussions with Han Meilin under the topic of "connections between ancient civilization and moder art", moderated by Bai Yansong.
Han Meilin Fresco Art Collection was also launched at the inauguration ceremony.
