Gao Yu Attended the 15th China-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue Forum Held in Nanning, and Delivered a Speech

On September 21, the 15th China-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue Forum, co-hosted by the Counsellors’ Office of the State Council (COSC) and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was successfully held in Nanning, Guangxi. Gao Yu, Chairman and Secretary of Party Leadership Group of the COSC, and Liao Pinhu, Vice Governor and Member of Party Leadership Group of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, attended the forum and delivered speeches.

This year, Gao pointed out in his speech, marks the 20th anniversary of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership and the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by General Secretary Xi Jiping. Consequently, it is of considerable significance to hold the 15th China-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue Forum. By now, the development of China-ASEAN relations has entered the fast lane and accelerated. We should cherish the hard-won cooperation achievements, continue to uphold an open and inclusive attitude, jointly safeguard and promote regional peace, development and prosperity, propelling the BRI to embark on a new journey in broader and more in-depth international cooperation of higher standards. According to Gao, the COSC looks forward to working with all parties to follow the new trend of the development of China-ASEAN relations and further deepen exchanges and cooperation between China-ASEAN think tanks so that think tanks can contribute more to the new journey of the BRI and the building of a closer China-ASEAN community of shared future.

China and ASEAN countries, Liao said, has always adhered to the principles of sincerity, mutual assistance and benefit, coordination and inclusiveness, stepping onto the correct path of long-term good-neighborliness, common development and prosperity. Guangxi, as the only region in China adjacent to ASEAN countries by land and sea, is a forefront window for China’s opening toward and cooperation with ASEAN, as well as a witness, promoter, and beneficiary of China-ASEAN cooperation. We welcome think tanks and experts from various countries to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with research institutes and relevant organizations in Guangxi, offering suggestions and proposals for the development of Guangxi.

 

The Site of the Forum

Zhu Guangyao, Counsellor of the State Council and former Vice Minister of Finance, delivered a video keynote speech titled “Fruitful Results of China-ASEAN Cooperation: a More Promising Future”. Xian Zude, Counsellor of the State Council and former Deputy Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics, delivered a keynote speech titled “With Accurate Implementation of Macroeconomic Policies, China’s Economy Recovers and Prospers”. Lou Hong, Research Fellow of the COSC, attended the forum.

The 15th China-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue Forum is one of the high-level forums under the framework of the 20th China-ASEAN Expo (CAE). It is jointly organized by Guangxi Academy of Social Sciences, the Counsellors’ Office of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the National Institute of International Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Guangxi Characteristic New Think Tank Alliance, and the CAE Secretariat. The theme of this forum is “Collective Wisdom for a Shared FutureJointly Embarking on the New Journey of BRI. In-depth discussions and exchanges are made focusing on the achievements and prospects of the China-ASEAN joint efforts in promoting the BRI at the 10th anniversary, the innovative development of cross-border supply and industrial chains, the promotion of high-level institutional openness, civilization exchanges and mutual learning, etc., so as to further build up consensus and boost confidence, offering more “think tank solutions” for deepening regional cooperation and global governance.

Khanlasy Keobounphanh, Vice President of the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences, Lei Lei Thein, Executive Board Member of the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies, Ong Tee Keat, former Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat (Lower House) of Parliament of Malaysia and former Federal Transport  Minister of Malaysia, Chairman of Center for New Inclusive Asia, and President of the Belt and Road Initiative Caucus for Asia Pacific, delivered speeches or keynote speeches. This event attracted more than 300 attendees, including representatives from the think tanks, universities, and consulates at Nanning of ASEAN countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as representatives from multiple Chinese government agencies, think tanks, universities, enterprises, and media. Experts from the counsellors’ offices of Fujian, Shandong, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces also took part in the forum.
