Counsellors of the State Council Investigated the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

From March 26 to 31, the Counsellors’ Office of the State Council (COSC) organized an inspection tour of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to survey the progress in its development. Members of the delegation included Zhao Bing, Member of the COSC Party Group, Vice Chairman of the COSC, and Counsellors of the State Council including Xie Boyang, Li Yuguang, Zhen Zhen, Li Wei, Hu Zucai and He Defang.

The delegation was briefed on the progress in the development of the Greater Bay Area. Members of the delegation discussed and exchanged ideas with relevant parties in Guangdong Province on coordination of rules and mechanisms, building of the International Center for Technology and Innovation, building of a high-caliber talent hub, and stabilization of foreign trade and investment around the development of major cooperation platforms of Hengqin, Qianhai and Nansha.

The delegation made an on-the-spot investigation of Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port, Yantian International Container Terminals, Qianhai International Talent Hub, Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao. Members of the delegation were briefed on corporate innovation and advanced manufacturing development in BYD Company Limited and Gree Electric Appliances, Inc., inspected the customs clearance at Shenzhen Bay Port and Hengqin Port, and investigated the development of marine economy at Zhuhai Wanshan Marine Development Experimental Zone.

Zhao pointed out that the development of the Greater Bay Area is a major national strategy planned, arranged, and promoted by General Secretary Xi Jinping. We should comprehensively implement the guiding principles in his important speeches and instructions on the development of the Greater Bay Area, further contribute our ideas and proposals, and help accelerate the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. We should make efforts to identify model cases of coordination of rules and mechanisms to exert their exemplary leading role in promoting more efficient flows of talents, materials, capital and information. We should summarize good experience and practices, comprehensively deepen efficient and pragmatic cooperation in the fields of science and technology, education and talents, build major innovation platforms, promote the deep integration of science and technology with industry, build an industrial center for sci-tech innovation with global influence, and build a high-caliber talent hub in the Greater Bay Area.

Present at the discussion and investigation were Zhang Chunxin, Chairman of the Counsellors’ Office of Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, Chen Xiaomin, Level 1 counsel, counsellors of Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, research fellows of the Counsellors’ Office of Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, and officials in charge of COSC Counsellor-Service Department.
