(Xinhua News Agency, 26 June, Beijing) Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made important instructions on accepting public comments on the work related to the 20th CPC National Congress. He emphasized that the 20th CPC National Congress is an important event in the political life of the Party and the state. Soliciting online public comments on the work of the congress is an effective means for Party members and people from all walks of life to advise on national development and rejuvenation and a vivid example of whole-process people’s democracy. This drive won positive responses from the public, who made constructive comments and suggestions that need to be studied and accepted as appropriate. Best practices arising thereof should be summarized to better deliver the mass line of the Party under new circumstances. The Internet should be effectively employed to solicit opinions from the people, listen to them, respect them and respond to their needs, so as to ensure better results of the undertakings of the Party and the country in all respects.
As instructed by General Secretary Xi Jinping in February, the online comment solicitation drive was carried out from 15 April to 16 June. Special sections were created on the websites and apps of People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Media Group as well as through xuexi.cn to invite public comments. A total of 8,542,000 pieces of comments and suggestions were received, which contributed to the preparation for the 20th National Congress.
