On May 15th to 22nd, 2019, the COSC delegation visited Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) at the invitation of the Canon Institute for Global Studies of Japan and Sungkyun Institute of China Studies of South Korea. The delegation was headed by COSC Vice Chairman Zhang Yantong, with members including Tang Min, Counsellor of the State Council, Zhang Xiaolan, Director General of the Guangdong Counsellors’ Office, Chen Demin, Counsellor of the Chongqing Municipal Government, and Wang Lanlan, project official of the Foreign Affairs Division of the Department of International Exchanges and Cooperation of COSC.
In Japan, the delegation met with Kiyoyuki Seguchi, Research Director of the Canon Institute for Global Studies, Kumiko Okazaki, Research Dirctor of the Canon Institute for Global Studies and Sadahiro Sugita, Executive Managing Directorof Japan-China Economic Association and had discussions on topics such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China-Japan economic and trade cooperation, and China-US trade frictions. They had talks with the Representative Office of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) as well as representatives of some Chinese companies in Japan to learn about the opportunities and challenges facing Chinese companies in Japan. The delegation also made visits to Polytecnic College and Keihanna Open Innovation Center to get an idea about vocational education, scientific and technological innovation, and business incubation in Japan.

In the ROK, the delegation met with Presidential Committee on Policy Planning and introduced the functions and responsibilities of each other’s institutions and discussed the establishment of a mechanism for exchange and cooperation. They met with LEE HEE OK, Director of Sungkyun Institute of China Studies and Lee Hwa Soon, Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Provincial Government and exchanged views on China-ROK exchanges in economy, trade, science and technology as well as prospects for China-ROK cooperation, and had talks with CCPIT Representative Office in the ROK on China-ROK trade and investment cooperation under the BRI and operations of Chinese companies in ROK.
While in the ROK, the delegation made visits to Bucheon University and STARTUP CAMPUS.
