COSC Delegation on Visit to Sri Lanka and India

From 22 to 29 November 2018, a COSC delegation led by Counsellor Fang Ning visited Sri Lanka and India. Among the members were Deng Xiaohong and Deng Xiaonan, Counsellor of the State Council.

In Sri Lanka, they talked with Professor Lalith P. Samarakoon, Secretary-General of the National Economic Council, about BRI and China-Sri Lanka relations and engaged with experts from the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) on China-Sri Lanka think tank cooperation, cultural exchange, and economic partnership. They visited some Chinese-funded projects, including the port city and CICT to see Chinese involvement in the construction of the port.

In India, the delegation held two seminars with the Observer Research Foundation in Mumbai and New Delhi respectively, with discussions focused on social governance, China-India cooperation, cultural exchange, education, employment, and environmental protection. The delegation made field trips to in the two cities to see programs of sanitation for poverty reduction in communities and the recycling of used goods, learning about how Indian NGOs work on public wellbeing. They were also invited by India-China Friendship Association to engage in an in-depth exchange on China-India cooperation and interactions in various fields.
